We all face stressors every day in our busy lifestyles, and we all get stressed by different things. Sometimes stress can even impact us without an obvious stressor.

The most important step to overcoming stress is to first recognise it; being aware of when you’re experiencing a state of conflict or discomfort and to understand that this state is unproductive. It’s equally important to realise the mindset and state of mind that you want to be in. This creates an opportunity to relax and to shift from the mindset you don’t want to be in, to the one you want to be in.

This is all about relaxation and finding a moment of calm. There are techniques and tools you can use from within to help with this relaxation process. Some of these we have explored more in depth.

  1. Box Breathing – Box Breathing is an exercise used to bring yourself back into the present moment. You can find Jonny’s advice and tips on Box Breathing here.
  2. Stretching – Stretching is a simple and accessible technique helpful to improve your wellbeing short term as well as long term. You can watch Jonny talk about the importance of stretching and his techniques here.
  3. Mindfulness and Meditation – This is about bringing yourself back to the present moment, checking in with yourself and observing your thoughts and feelings without judgment.

“For me, transitioning from a state of stress to a more positive state involves relaxation. It is essential to calm oneself before one can move from stress to genuine joy. Directly shifting from stress to joy without this calming process is, in my experience, quite challenging.” – Jonny Wilkinson (Founder)
